Lausanne: The International Olympic Committee on Wednesday “Presents the deepest concern” in a boxing place at the Paris Olympics 2024, quoting “unresolved” problems with the structure of international boxing associations, financial situations and valuation systems even when AIBA promised to “exceed “Stipulated criteria.
In a letter addressed to President Aiba Umar Kremlev, Director General of IOC Christophe de Keppppppper said the Olympic body executive board had asked him and his ethical head and compliance for “follow-up” in the situation.
Aiba answered by saying that it did everything IOC expected from him.
“Aiba has worked on comprehensive reforms for some time now and is grateful for the IOC public recognition that the advanced step is certainly taken in terms of good governance …” Aiba stated in an email to PTI, responded to the IOC letter.
In the four-page communication, IOC stated dissatisfaction with the work carried out by AIBA to overcome concerns related to the governance, finance and the referee and judging system that had been under intense supervision since the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“On the basis above, the IOC Executive Board said Returned his worries and reaffirmed the previous position of the boxing place in the Paris 2024 Olympics program and the last edition of the Match Olympics, “said the letter.
Aiba said she would do more than what had been mandated to regain IOC trust.
“Extensive reform has taken place in terms of financial integrity, good governance and exercise integrity, including all areas mentioned by IOC and more,” said Aiba.
“Independent experts are involved in each of these sectors.
Aiba believes this reform will see AIBA meet and even exceed the criteria set by the IOC for recovery.” The IOC said while admitting that Aiba had taken “step forward towards a better government” but some concerns remained unexpected.
“…
So far no new leadership team among selected officials has been implemented to effectively embrace cultural change in the AIBA government,” he said.
“Therefore, the IOC will be happy to receive information about the schedule for leadership updates, especially the date planned for the selection of the AIBA Board of Directors, and the feasibility criteria and how they will be assessed.” AIBA was suspended in 2019 but Kremlev said that he expected an affiliation back with the IOC at the end of this year after announcing many steps to overcome the concerns raised by government agencies.
IOC also asks questions regarding AIBA finance.
Aiba has declared himself debt free a few months ago.
“…
an independent IOC expert, EY, will assess AIBA documentation that supports the effectiveness of various announcements published in the media relating to the resolution of debt and current financing plans and the future,” he said.
“…
requested documents include details that are confirmed about the resolution of debt and the provisions of the sponsorship contract,” he explained.
Touching the referee’s subject and assessment, IOC said he was informed about the controversial decision during the senior Asian championship and the Youth World Championship held earlier this year.
Aiba said he was investigating this problem.
“Therefore we anticipate that all complaints and full actions of AIBA in response to the complaint will be documented in the Professor McLaren report on September 30, 2021,” he added, referring to the investigation that was launched by AIBA.
The Olympic boxing competition in the Tokyo match was carried out by the IOC task force and asked AIBA to integrate “best practices” that the boxing unit (BTF) had worked when choosing officials.
IOC wants AIBA to have a direct assessment system for the world championship next month in Serbia.
