Athens: The International Olympic Committee spoke with Chinese Tennis player Peng Shuai last week and would meet him in Beijing during the winter Olympics next month, he said on Wednesday.
The Peng situation was a problem that was a concern in November when the former women’s double player alleged that the former Chinese Premier representative, Zhang Gaoli, sexually attacked him in the past.
After that social media posts, he was absent from public views for almost three weeks.
Last month Peng said he never accused anyone who did sexual abuse, and that the post he made had misunderstood.
Zhang hasn’t commented on this problem.
“Since the first call that IOC was held with Shuai Peng on November 21, 2021, the IOC team continued to relate to it and had a number of conversations with him – the last only the last week,” said an IOC spokesman.
“He mentioned that he was looking forward to a meeting with President of IOC Thomas Bach and Emma Hosted, Chairman of the IOC Athletes Commission, which we had invited him in the first conversation.” IOC has several telephone calls with players but international concerns for their safety and well-being have not happened.
The Women’s Tennis Association has suspended a tournament in China because of its concern for Peng Safety.
China has not directly commented on the initial post of Peng, but said after the WTA movement “opposed sports politicization”.
Beijing Olympics will begin on February 4.
