NEW DELHI: Apple unveiled the latest version of its operating system — iOS 15 at its annual developer conference WWDC 2021.
Along with this, the company also revealed the list of iPhones that will receive the iOS 15 update this fall.
The list shared by Apple also includes a six-year-old iPhone.
The tech giant has confirmed that the six-year-old iPhone 6S will also get the iOS 15 update.
The iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and first-generation iPhone SE will get the latest OS update.
All three smartphones came with iOS 9 out-of-the-box.
These are the oldest devices to receive the OS update.
The OS update makes iPhone 6S the longest supported phone.
Prior to this, iPhone 5S was the five-year-old iPhone when it got the last OS update which was iOS 12.
However, despite the OS update, there are some features that will not work with the A9 Bionic chipset of Apple iPhone 6S.
The features include Google Lens-esque Visual Lookup, Live Text in photos, portrait mode in FaceTime, and immersive walking directions in Maps All these features require the device to pack A12 Bionic chipset or later.
But iPhone 6S users will also get some useful features like notification summaries and Focus modes to minimise interruptions.
It is also quite possible that installing the update might slow down the device.
No other smartphone manufacturer promises software updates to devices that are five or six years old.
Talking about the Android side, Samsung recently promised that it will offer four years of security support to its devices.
