Tehran: President Hassan Rouhani expressed Concerns on Saturday that Iran will be hit by a new wave of Pandemic Covid-19, because of the outbreak of the Delta variant.
“It is feared that we are on our way to the fifth wave throughout the country,” Rouhani told Iran’s anti-virus task meeting, warned the public to be careful as “Delta variant has spread” in the southern province.
Iran struggled against the Coronavirus outbreak at the Middle East.
Covid-19 has killed more than 84,000 people from more than 3.2 million infections detected in the Islamic Republic, according to official figures that the authorities admitted they did not take into account all infections.
The Ministry of Health has been classified as “red” – the highest category on the risk scale of the Coronavirus Iran – the capital of Tehran and nine other cities in the province of Tehran.
South and Southeast Provinces, Hormozgan, Kerman and Sistan-Baluchistan are also now classified as “red”.
Disblocked by US sanctions that has made it difficult to produce money transfers to foreign companies, Iran said he was struggling to import vaccines for the population of 83 million.
More than 4.4 million people have received the first dose of vaccines in Iran, while only 1.7 million have received two doses needed, the Ministry of Health said.
“God willing, the situation will improve in terms of vaccination from next week,” Rouhani said.
The authorities in Iran have agreed to the emergency use of two vaccines produced locally.
