Iran announces the first case of the Omicron variant: report

Tehran: Iran has detected its first infection case by a new Omicron variant of Coronavirus, TV State report on Sundays.
The announcement came when the variant spread throughout the world was less than a month after scientists told the world health organization to the related version.
Iran has vaccinated around 60% of the population of around 85 million people with two doses of coronavirus vaccines.
Coronavirus has killed more than 131,000 people in Iran, the worst mortality rate in the Middle East.
On August 24, 709 people died of the disease.
The number of deaths has declined in recent months due to vaccination, experts said.
Iran accelerated vaccinations in recent weeks.
More than 50 million Iranians have received their second shot, and 3.5 million have received a third shot.
Only 7 million Iranians have received vaccinations when President Ebrahin Relisi formed his government at the end of August.
Iran generally uses a Sinopharm vaccine made by China, although Sputnik-V Russia and vaccines made by the English-Swedish pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca are also being used.
Iranian officials urge people who get two vaccine doses to get their third dose as soon as possible.
