Dubai: Iran has opened his first oil terminal in Oman’s Bay, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Thursday, to allow Tehran to avoid the Hormuz shipping route strait which has become the focus of regional tension for decades.
“This is a strategic step and important step for Iran.
This will secure the continuation of our oil exports,” Rouhani said in a televised speech.
“Today, the first delivery of 100 tons of oil is loaded outside the Hormuz Strait.
This shows US sanctions failure.” Rouhan said Iran aims to export 1 million barrels per day (BPD) oil from Bandar-e Jask, a port in Oman Iran Gelor, south of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran often threatens to block the Strait if its crude oil exports are turned off by US sanctions, regosioned by Washington three years ago when President Donald Trump left Tehran’s nuclear agreement with six main powers.
The Tehran government and US President Joe Biden have held indirect talks in Vienna since early April to revive the agreement, where Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in return for the appointment of most international sanctions.
Strait is a narrow channel in the mouth of the bay through it about a fifth of oil in the world from Middle Eastern producers to markets in Asia, Europe, North America and so on.
There is a periodic confrontation between the Iranian and US military revolutionary guards in the area.
