Tehran: The Iranian military started its annual war match in the coastal area of Oman’s Teluk, the state TV report on Sunday, less than a month before the upcoming nuclear talks with the West.
The report said the naval and air force units and land forces participated in an area of more than 1 million square (386,100 miles of square) to the east of the Hormuz Strategic Strait.
Nearly 20% of all oil shipments passed the Strait to Oman’s Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
The drill came amid increasing tensions between Iran and the US after former President Donald Trump who was withdrawing America from America from Iran 2015 from the Nuclear Department with World Powers.
State TV said Brigadees, including Commandos and Airborne Infantry was deployed for annual training.
Combat jets, helicopters, military transport aircraft, submarines and drones are also expected to participate in the drill.
Not immediately clear how long the exercise will take place.
Dubbed “Zolfaghar-1400”, war games aimed at “increasing readiness in dealing with foreign threats and possible invasions”, said TV State.
US officials said last week that Iran had seized Vietnamese-flagged oil tankers in Oman’s Gulf last month and still holding the ship at the port.
Iran offers conflicting stories about what happened, claiming that the elite revolutionary guard command has thwarted US confiscation from a tanker carrying Iranian oil in Oman’s Bay and freed the ship.
It aired the dramatic recording on the country television but did not explain further incidents.
Nuclear agreement, known as a shared comprehensive action plan, or JCPOA, promised Iran’s economic incentives in exchange for boundaries in its nuclear program, and was intended to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear bombs.
After the US withdrew from the agreement in 2018 and restored sanctions in Iran, the Islamic Republic gradually – and openly – left the limits of agreement on its nuclear development.
Iran said the inventory of 20% enriched uranium had reached more than 210 kilograms (463 pounds), the latest challenging movement in front of nuclear talks that will come with the West.
Under the historical nuclear agreement, Iran is prohibited from enriching uranium above 3.67%.
Uranium enriched above 90% can be used for nuclear weapons, even though Tehran affirms its nuclear program peacefully.
After months of delay, the European Union, Iran and the US announced last week that indirect talks to awaken the agreement will continue November 29 in Vienna.
