Dubai: Iraq has caught Sami Jasim, a high ranking member of the Islamic State responsible for the financial group and a deputy leader who was killed by Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi said on Twitter on Monday.
“While [our Iraqi security forces] Heroes focus on security security, colleagues [Iraqi national intelligence services) they perform complex external operations to capture Sami Jasim,” he said, without providing more details about operations.
Baghdadi was killed in an attack by US special forces in Northwestern Syria in 2019.
The US State Department at the time offered a prize for information that leads to the location of the Islamic state leaders who are identified including Jasim.
