Baghdad: Drone attack has been carried out at the military base in Iraq Kurdistan who accommodated American forces, without causing every victim, the US-led coalition said Saturday.
This attack is equipped with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi is expected to meet US President Joe Biden in Washington on Monday to discuss the possibility of withdrawal of US troops from his country.
“The unmanned air system had an impact on the coalition base in Kurdistan” in early Friday, US coalition spokesman Colonel Wayne Marotto said in a statement.
“There were no victims and there was no damage due to the attack,” he said, adding “the United States and coalition forces would remain vigilant and defend the default right to defend themselves.” The Iraq Kurdi media outlet said the attack targets the base in Al-Harir, 70 kilometers (45 miles) northeast Arbil, the capital of the autonomous Kurdistan region.
This is the latest in a series of attacks on the US military and diplomatic facilities in Iraq, blamed for pro-Iranian armed groups in the state-sponsored paramilitary style.
The United States still has around 2,500 soldiers used in Iraq, from 3,500 men in an international coalition which was founded in 2014 to combat Islamic groups.
Their departure was sued by pro-Iran factions, which have been blamed for around 50 attacks on US interests in Iraq since the beginning of the year.
The Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee on Friday threatened to continue the attack except the US attracted all his troops and ended “work”.
Most of the American forces were deployed in the coalition, which helped defeat in Iraq in 2017, withdrawn under former US President Donald Trump.
The remaining officially grouped as advisors and coaches for Iraqi’s army and counter-terrorism units.
