LONDON: Ireland all-rounder Kevin O’Brien, whose century from England at a 2011 World Cup game is still the fastest billion in the championship’s history, has stopped one-day internationals, Cricket Ireland stated on Friday.
O’Brien wrote his name from the record books with a 50-ball century at Bangalore 10 decades back when Ireland beat England by three wickets, chasing a 328-run success goal with five balls to spare.
O’Brien crushed 113, clobbering six sixes in his 63-ball blitz, at the defining bang of the ODI career.
“After 15 years playing for Ireland, I believe now is the perfect moment to step out and retire in ODI cricket,” O’Brien said in an announcement issued by Cricket Ireland.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to represent my nation 153 days along with the memories that I take from these will endure for a life,” added that the participant who’ll be accessible for Evaluation and T20 cricket.
The 37-year-old’s 3619 runs would be the third greatest in his nation and he’s Ireland’s top wicket-taker using 114 scalps in one-day internationals.
His dad Brendan and elder brother Niall also played with Ireland.
