JAMSHEDPUR: Local residents living on the outskirts of the mango notification area have taken to beg to raise funds to replace wooden poles with cement.
This came after Jharkhand Vitran Nigam Ltd.
(JBVNL) officials allegedly gave them some guarantees in the last eight months to replace the pole but did nothing, encourage local residents to beg for the earliest work.
Local residents have announced a beggar program for a week, starting from Monday, from Mango Chowk.
In the following days, they would raise funds begged in Dimna Chowk, Hanuman Temple, Daigutu, Pardih Chowk and around the landmark.
As a first step, the locals begged on the roadside, will be a company’s home for funds.
The Mango and BJP leader Vikas Singh, who was approached by local residents to lead the beggar campaign, said that the funds collected in beggars would be stored with JBVNL to ensure that there was no shortage of funds in carrying out the work of the pole replacement.
“We made several requests to JBVNL to replace wood poles but everything was in vain.
We recently learned that the work was delayed due to lack of funds.
Therefore, we decided to help the department with funds to complete our work,” Singh added.
Jamshedpur Division General Manager Paritosh Kumar, however, said there was no scarcity of material needed to replace wood poles.
“Lack of funds is not a problem and we have enough material.
Why does the pole have not been replaced is the thing I will pay attention to,” Kumar added.
Those who live in Turiabera, Gajadih, the Baliguma Chart area, in particular, are afraid of electrocution stings because some wooden poles are damaged due to rain.
“More than 24 poles in eight slums, in three residential areas mentioned above, need to be changed urgently,” said D K Sahu.
