Chennai: Tamil Nadu has asked permission from the union government to make a mandatory ten-day house isolation for all foreign passengers entering the country.
After the seventh day, the state wants to make a RT-PCR test requires this passenger so that only it is, which is negatively tested, can move to various locations in the state.
At present, only those who come from 12 high-risk countries experience RT-PCR tests and are advised to be in house isolation.
Passengers, who arrived at international airports in the state of non-risk countries, were not subject to a tight Covid-19 protocol.
Only 2% (randomly selected) from them undergoing RT-PCR tests at the airport and the rest did not experience any form of testing or strict quarantine rules.
The Minister of Health MA Subramanian said, “Now passengers from non-risk countries such as Nigeria and Congo are also testing positive, we want to make mandatory home isolation for all international passengers”.
They will experience a RT-PCR test after seven days and only if they test negatively, they will be allowed to leave their homes.
The state will write to the Government Government seeking permission to implement suggested changes, he said.
According to official data presented by it, more than 14,800 international passengers underwent RT-PCR tests and 70 people among them were tested positively.
Among them, five are tested negatively and others, who asymptomatic with sound, fever or body pain, are undergoing treatment at a government hospital throughout the state.
The state laboratory has detected a decline in genes in 28 of these patients.
However, all 70 samples were sent to the United States for genome sequencing.
The results of 10 samples are communicated with the country.
Eight found infected with the Delta variant, one was tested positive for Omicron and one categorized as not-in-order, the Minister said.
