Jerusalem: A 16-year-old Palestinian crashed into an Israeli checkpoint on the West Bank last night, injuring a security guard before being shot and “neutralized” at the scene, the Israeli defense ministry said Monday.
Israeli media reported that the alleged attacker was killed, while a ministry official refused to comment further.
Defense Minister Benny Gantz praised the response of security forces and hoped for a quick recovery to the guards, who had been hospitalized.
The attack took place two days after a Palestinian from the West Bank which was occupied by stabbing and injured an Israeli man outside the old city of Jerusalem and tried to stab a border police officer before being shot and killed.
The video taken by the observers showed the police continued to shoot the attacker after he fell to the ground and prevented the medical officer approach him.
Shooting drawing comparison with the 2016 incident where an Israeli soldier was caught on the camera shooting the injured Palestinian striker lying on the ground.
The soldier was imprisoned for several months in the case that divided the country.
The Ministry of Justice Israel said the two officers involved in Saturday shooting were brought to be questioned before being released unconditionally.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and other top officials have praised the response of officers against the attack.
Palestine has done dozens of stabbing, crashing into a car and occasionally carry out a shooting attack in recent years.
Most have been carried out by attackers alone without a known connection with militant groups, which praised the attack without claiming responsibility for them.
Rights groups say Israel sometimes uses excessive force, killing the alleged attacker who can be arrested and does not pose a direct threat.
Israeli officials said the troops must make split-second decisions in dangerous situations and that all the incidents were investigated.
Israel caught the West Bank in the 1967 war.
Palestinians wanted to form the main part of their future countries.
The area of 2.5 million Palestinians lived under the Israeli military government, with internationally recognized Palestinian authorities managing cities.
