Jerusalem: Israel announced that it was preparing a national investigation on Monday after the newspaper reported illegal use by the police about strong spyware to the trust of the former PM Benjamin Netanyahu and other public figures.
Pegasus, a cellphone hacking tool made by the Israeli NSO Group, was used for “Phish for Intelligence even before any investigation has been opened on targets, and without justice”, Calcacist said in a report that is not yet available.
Calcotist said the target in Israel included a son and two helper to Netanyahu – who was being tried on charges of corruption which was rejected by him – as well as Codefendant and several witnesses, and, separately, two former officials suspected of journalists.
The court heard the case against Netanyahu said it canceled the next session, scheduled for Tuesday, and would wait for an answer from the prosecution of hacking allegations before deciding whether the process would continue on Wednesday.
Omer Barlev, the Minister of Police, said he was setting up the Cabinet Inquiry Commission, drawing a call from several colleagues in the government for a more independent investigation.
PM Naftali Bennett called the charges against the police “very good, if true”.
