Jerusalem: US national security advisors held talk Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett, who warned that negotiations in Vienna about Iran’s nuclear program had “big consequences” for Israeli security.
The Bennett government remains contrary to sustainable international efforts to revive the 2015 agreement that see Iran agreed to curb its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions assistance.
Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor to President Joe Biden, said his visit to Israel had come on “critical point.” “It is important that we sit together and develop a shared strategy, general view, and find a way forward which basically secures the interests of the state and mine,” said Sullivan, according to an Israeli government statement.
He did not directly call Iran but Israel’s statement said the meeting focused on Vienna talks.
Bennett has called for negotiations to be stopped, accusing Iran from “nuclear extortion” and collecting the income obtained from sanctions will be used to acquire Israeli weapons.
Our lead Iranian negotiator Rob Malley told CNN Tuesday that there was only a “few weeks” left to revive the agreement if Tehran continued his nuclear activities at the current speed.
Negotiations to restore the pact known as the joint action plan continued in November.
Washington is a party for the original agreement, but resigned under President Donald Trump in 2018.
The Biden government has warned that it might be too late to revive Jcpoa.
“It really depends on their nuclear process speed,” Malley said, US special envoys for Iran.
“If they stop nuclear progress, we have more time.” If they continue with their current speed, we have a few weeks left but no more than that, at that time the conclusion will be an agreement to be revived, “he said.
