Jerusalem: The Israeli Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced nearly 12,000 cases of new Coronavirus, which was the biggest increase in daily infection since the beginning of the pandemic almost two years ago.
According to numbers, 11,978 new Covid cases were detected during Tuesday, surpassing the country’s highest record of 11,344 cases recorded on September 2 last year.
While currently there are nearly 60,000 people with Covid in Israel, the number of serious cases on Wednesday is only 125, according to the Ministry of Health.
Nearly 4.3 million of the 9.4 million people of Israel had received three shots of the Coronavirus vaccine.
In the past few days, the authorities began to provide fourth shots for risky groups.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett estimated that the increase continued in the case and encouraged people to be vaccinated.
“The wave is now really increasing and we hope to have tens of thousands of verified cases in the next few days,” he said during a hospital tour in Central Israel.
“The good news is that vaccines work, so whoever will be vaccinated and correctly wearing a mask may not be seriously ill, and it will pass in a few days,” he said.
The country has officially recorded more than 1.4 million cases of Covid-19 infection, including 8,247 deaths.
