Jerusalem: The Israeli government on Wednesday said it contributed 1 million Coronavirus vaccines to the Covax program that was not supported.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the AstraZeneca vaccine will be transferred in the coming weeks, a decision that is part of the bonds that strengthen Israel with African countries.
“I am happy that Israel can contribute and become partners in eradicating pandemics around the world,” Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said.
The announcement said the vaccine would reach a quarter of African countries, even though it did not provide a list.
Israel has a close relationship with a number of Africans, including Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.
Israel also established a relationship with Sudan last year as part of a series of US-brokered agreements.
Covax is a global initiative that aims to provide coronavirus vaccines to poor countries.
Rich countries have acquired most of the world vaccine equipment, causing large inequality in access to JABS.
Israel is one of the first countries to vaccinate the population.
Earlier this year, it was criticized for not sharing his inventory with Palestine.
Since then, Israel has vaccinated tens of thousands of Palestinians who work in Israel and its settlements, and Palestinians have bought vaccines from Covax and other sources.
