Istanbul: Suspension of flight operations at Istanbul Turkey airport extended on Tuesday due to heavy snowfall, while the winter weather growled transportation across the city, home to around 16 million people.
“The suspension of flight operations has been extended to 1000 GMT on January 25 because of bad weather conditions,” Istanbul airport said on his website.
Turkish authorities expressed administrative leave for all public institution personnel on Tuesday to reduce mobility.
Governor Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya said on Twitter that private vehicles would not be allowed on the road to 1000 GMT while the emergency team continued to clear the road.
The recording distributed by the governor shows trucks and stranded cars in the snow.
On Monday, Turkey’s Flag-Carrier Turkish Airlines said it had canceled all flights from Istanbul airport as the airport closed the operation.
