IT sector to expand to Tier-II City: Ashwath Narayan

MySuru: Higher Education, Science and Technology and IT Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said that the government had initiated the process, along with the information technology sector in the state, to expand their business in Tier-II cities such as Mysuru, Hubballi, and Mangaluru, because it will cause an increase in income.
According to him, it will also cause the target of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the economy of USD 5 trillion in 2024, as well as spreading economic growth to arouse clusters in the state.
Speaking after launching the Mysuru Mysuru Digital Mission Office in Karnataka in the Hebbal Industrial Area in the city on Friday, he said that the current IT sector contributed 25% GSDP to the nation.
“From this, Bengaluru just contributed 91%.
The government has launched a digital economic mission of Karnataka (KDEM) with the intention to create around 10 lakh jobs in 2025, with expanding the IT sector outside Bengaluru,” he said.
The government has set a target to achieve the goal of USD 150 billion in IT exports through KDEM in the next five years.
He said the government had taken steps to strengthen virtual infrastructure, such as increasing broadband and internet connectivity, to facilitate digital economic growth, throughout the state.
Additional Secretary (IT and BT) V Ramana Reddy said that KDEM was established in the Public-Private Partnership Model (PPP).
This model was adopted in Singapore to promote the growth of complexity and economic free industry, without interference from the government, he said.
