ROME: A Rome judge Tuesday ordered four high-profile associates of Egypt’s security forces to stand trial for the abduction, torture and killing at Cairo of a Italian doctoral student. Judge Pierluigi Balestrieri place Oct. 14 as the date for the launching of this trial, and the LaPresse news bureau reported following a closed-door preliminary hearing. It’s widely anticipated that the suspects will be tried in absentia. Back in December, Italian prosecutors officially placed the four Egyptians under evaluation for their alleged roles at the 2016 slaying of Giulio Regeni. Regeni’s body has been discovered on a street times after he vanished from the Egyptian capital on Jan. 25, 2016. He had been in Cairo to investigate union actions among street vendors as part of the doctoral thesis. His mom has stated that his body was mutilated by torture which she was just able to comprehend that the suggestion of his nose while she watched it. Human rights activists have stated the marks in his body resembled those leading to widespread torture in Egyptian centers. Egyptian police have declared the Cambridge University doctoral student fell prey to normal robbers.
