Lucknow: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police Team (ITBP) Mountaineers has created history by conducting the first successful expedition to Mount Balbala Peak in Uttarakhand because of the last 21,050-foot peak scale by the Swiss team in 1946.
Winciwa by Ace Mountaineer and UP Cadre IPS Officer Aparna Kumar, Codenamed ITBP ‘Prakaram’ was launched on August 7, 2021 from the 1st Battalion based in Joshimath and was returned to the base on September 7 after successfully lifting tricolor at the top of Mount Balbala on 4.
Aparna Kumarkumar, now Gali ITBP, Dehradun, is The key to organizing this expedition after taking approval from headquarters.
He guided and motivated a team from Dehradun and success came after two attempts failed.
The expedition was led by Assistant Commander of Bhim Singh, and included Praveen Subspectivity, Ashish Ranjan, Nikhil and Constables Sunil Kumar, Pradeep Panwar while Navigator was Raju Martolia.
“Medan Mount Balbala is quite tough and known for its very bad weather, which makes the expedition very challenging,” he told Toi.
“The ITBP personnel from our sector took assignments as a challenge and did not return even though they failed twice.
They maintain their enthusiasm and enthusiasm high and wait for the weather to improve and even plan a new trekking route and finally reach their goals,” Kumar said.
The expedition was not about only trekking, but ITBP personnel also examined the levels of glaciers, flora, fauna and other geographical and strategic aspects of peak and field, he added.
“We will continue to travel and explore the peaks that are still untouched,” Kumar said.
The trained troops on the mountain, ITBP, was accredited had succeeded in scaling more than 220 peaks since its formation in 1962.
Aparna was the 2002 Batch IPS officer and was given with Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2019.
