The National Teacher Education Council (NCTE) has announced the introduction of integrated teacher education programs (ITEP) from the academic year 2021-22.
While the program is praised as a stepping stone for better teacher training, certain differences in gazette notifications regarding courses are being cared for and discussed throughout the forum.
Need a course
BJ Rao, Deputy Chancellor, University of Hyderabad (UOH), said, “Training is currently delivered under a poor formal teacher education program.
In addition to being a subject expert, the teacher must understand the sensitivity of their students.
If the central university takes itep as part of the structure Four-year undergraduate program (FYUP), it will improve the quality of teacher training.

PANKAJ Arora, Professor of Education, Central Education Institute (CIE) and Director, Lifelong Learning Institute, Delhi University (DU), said, “Itep seems to be a good quality integrated program.
Itep students will learn about methods to improve the learning process for the subject They choose in class.
”
Adopt the program
Arora tells that as in NCTE, in the first academic year, itep will be introduced around 50 institutions throughout the country as a pilot project.
“There is no clarity about the names of the selected institutes or even details about their selection procedures,” he said.
In UOH, the NEP committee is considering the validity of adopting itep, so far the Institute does not offer a bed program.
“Discussion is in the process, but there is no conclusion that has been achieved so far,” said Rao.
Problems with Gazette Notification
Arora highlighted certain problems with Gazette notifications released by NCTE for Itep.
“As in verse 2.2, every semester itep will be 125 days long.
For a five-day working week, this amounts to 25 weeks, while for six days, it will be around 20 weeks.
According to Commission Grant University (UGC), every semester must be 14-15 Sunday.
Thus, this will bring the gap at the Teacher Education Institute calendar and all universities, “he said.
According to other clauses, students will be accepted in any subject after the entrance test, but they can change their specialists in one month join.
“Students have been accepted for certain subjects under their programs / expertise in them.
Mix them with other groups that have different mindsets may not be a good idea,” Arora said.
Carefully made
A source from NCTE said that rather than focusing on textbook training, itep had been formed to keep all aspects of national education policy (NEP) 2020 in mind.
“The curriculum focuses on all specifications, including basic literacy, local languages, and holistic learning,” the source said.
While the program has been formulated, NCTE has left space for repairs and changes.
“The idea of introducing a program in pilot mode has been made so that we can learn from all the problems that institutionalize the face over the first few years.
Changes can be made accordingly.
Initially, we would like to introduce itep in one or two central universities in each state to expand learning horizons , “said the source.
