Kolkata: The stage is set to welcome Santa back to the city of joy.
Like last year, the Kolkata Christmas Festival will be a four-day event starting December 20, followed by the Park Street Festival Festival from December 26 to 30.
Among them, there will be a two-day break on Christmas Eve and Christmas.
The Christmas Festival will be inaugurated by the Main Minister of Mamata Banerjee on December 20.
Season with direct choirs and band performances, the program will be held until December 23 at Allen Park at Park Street.
“There will be Christmas songs at night served by various choirs and bands that appear after.
Carols will be in English, Hindi, Bengali and Nepal to serve a diverse audience,” said Michael Shane Calvert, Head of the Christmas Festival Coordinator Kolkata.
Given the Covid situation, the committee has decided not to let the food stall along the north sidewalk.
Only three stalls will be permitted in the church building to sell cakes and Christmas goods.
“We want people to enjoy Christmas but don’t contribute to the crowd at Park Street.
Therefore, the decision to get rid of a food kiosk like last year,” the reason Calvert.
However, like every year, the whole stretch of Park Street between Chowringhee and the AJC Bose Road will light up.
At the entrance to Allen Park will be a 20-foot Christmas tree.
“The box we made will be placed in the park and was inaugurated by CM Mamata Banerjee at 4:30 a.m.,” said the Catholic Association of Bengal Angelina Mantosh.
After the CM speech, there will be Carols by three groups, followed by a show with three bands.
Carols and band performances marched all day.
Like last year, there will be a two-day break on Christmas Eve and Christmas followed by events made by the Department of Tourism.
Kolkata police band will appear on December 27.
“We will keep the functions fun but low, so there is no large build-up crowd,” Calvert said.
The Bengal Catholic Association has taken over the maintenance of Bunda Teresa Island at the Street Street-Camac intersection.
