Srinagar: Assert that educating tribal students is the top priority of the government of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior senior official said the Tribal Department has approved the highest expenditure of Rs 30 Crore to provide scholarships to them.
Secretary of the Department of Tribal Affairs Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said this year’s scholarship will be given to 42,000 students again above the previous year’s target.

The department has also cleaned up a number of Rs 90.75 lakh for 964 students whose scholarships for 2019-20 are waiting for the lack of authentication needed, the official said.
In addition, he said the department had cleared a number of Rs 7.61 Crore for 4,776 students for 2019-20 who were waiting for various other reasons.
The Tribal Affairs Department will look for online applications for scholarship schemes intended for students in grade 1 to 8 which will be delivered at the school level, he said.
“Some levels of submission of forms have been discarded to ensure convenience for students.
Furthermore, the department is in the process of notifying self-income certification for grade 1 to 8 on its portal that will be notified immediately,” he said.
Choudhary said this would make a big change in the ease of service to students.
“The form will be maintained at the school level and is not required to be submitted to the department through several levels which are complicated processes and taking time.
A process for tracking scholarships supported by students is also being initiated to manage and plan career counseling, skills development and placement support for students It is to ensure the desired results, “he said.
