Srinagar: Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist on Monday was shot dead by a BJP leader and his wife at Anantnag’s Lal Chowk in South Kashmir, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range Vijay Kumar.
According to IG Kumar, the gunmen broke through the couple’s house, where they lived with their own risk even though there was government accommodation provided in Kulgam in a protected cluster.
The deceased has been identified as the leader of BJP Ghulam Rasool Dar, Sarpwani in Kügulam and his wife Jawaira Begum, a pan in Lal Chowk Anannag.
Both Dar and his wife received a critical injury and was transferred to GMC Anannag.
However, both were declared dead, the official said.
The couple was allowed to stay in their home at Anantnag at their request, said IG Kumar.
Kumar said Lashker-e-Taiba was behind the attack.
Administration was suspended with the direct effect of PSO from BJP Sarpanch and his wife.
“PSO has been placed under a suspension with direct effects,” said Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar.
