Pune: Expert Infectious Diseases Dr.
Sanjay Pujari, a member of the National Covid Task Force, said, “Among all interventions to reduce Covid-19 deaths, full vaccination has the greatest efficacy.
Modeling studies show that vaccines may have prevented millions of deaths globally.” Pujari also underlines the importance of preventive doses for citizens over 60 years.
“Among the breakthrough infections of vaccines, comorbidity and elderly age can be attributed to the death of the remaining due to reduced immunity of cells.
So it is important to get the prudential doses for all above 60 with comorbidity to reduce Covid’s death,” he said.
However, Senior Clinical Epidemiology Dr.
Amitav Banerjee, however, said that drawing conclusions on the efficacy of vaccines solely based on Covid’s death data in vaccinated patients and not vaccinated would not be appropriate.
“For example, people who are looking for entrance tickets to government facilities are usually from lower socio-economic backgrounds or are part of a marginalized population.
These groups may have bad control of their comorability conditions, including diabetes and hypertension,” said Dr.
Banerjee .
He added, “In addition, some of them may be accepted not for covid symptoms but for other health conditions and by chance to have positive RT-PCR.
They may give up on other diseases and related complications but based on RT-PCR reports, this death may be classified as Covid death.
Therefore, the data must be compared with data from all socio-economic gradients.
“Data taken from private hospitals in Pune also shows that most Covid patients are currently undergoing treatment in the ICU Hospital are residents Senior, senior citizens or people over 50 with fundamental conditions.
The study also showed people who were not vaccinated “around nine times more likely to be hospitalized, and 14 times more likely to die of Covid complications”.
