Playback of the legendary composer singer and wife, end of Khayyam, Jagjit Kaur died on Sunday morning because of many organ failures.
The 93-year-old singer has been hospitalized for the last 15 days after the oxygen levels went down and he had to be treated at Sujay Hospital.
Raj Sharma, former Khayyam manager who did his last rite said, “He did not store well for the past 15 days.
The oxygen level fell and his organs also gave up so we had to admit him to the hospital.
He died this morning.”
Sharma said he did his last ritual when his mentor Khayyam had instructed.
He said, “Khayyam Saab is the person who took me to Mumbai in 1975.
I owe everything I achieved today and he told me, if something happened to him, I had to treat Jagjitji, which I did.” Singer Bhajan Anup Jalota and Composer of Uttam Singh and other residents of the housing community attended the funeral.
Incidentally, Jagjit Kaur died in the same month as Khayyam had died, two years ago, because of a heart attack.
Sharma said, “They lost her son in 2012 and after Khayyam Saab’s death, he lost interest in life and did not struggle to survive.
Here in the hospital too, I can only see tears running down his cheeks when he holds my hand.”
The driver and Khayyam Yogesh driver, who attended the last ritual of Jagjit Kaur and lived with him for the past two years, still felt his presence.
He said, “His condition in the last 15 days had deteriorated and his recovery looked difficult.
He was like my grandmother, my wife and I took care of her.
I was there with her and made sure that nothing bothered her.
My first child was born after Khayyam Saab died Jagjitji was very happy to see my child.
He would hug him and say, ‘Pappaji Hote, Bahut Khush Hote (having a live Pappaji, he would be happy).
I hope he lives longer even though his health is not good but I don’t feel that he gives up on life.

Jagjit Kaur who is famous for the song Tum Apni Ranjo Gham Pareshani song for the film ‘Shagoon’ only has 21 films for his credit but has been sung for an unforgettable film like ‘Bazaar’, ‘Khabhi Kabhie’ and ‘Umrao Jaan’ and ‘Umrao Jaan’ and ‘Umrao Jaan’ his credit.
Khayyam married Kaur Jagit in 1954 and was one of the first inter-religious marriages in the Indian film industry.
After their son, Pradeep died of a heart attack in 2012, was inspired by his help, they started Khayyam Jagjit Kaur Trust to help artistes and technicians.
Jagjit Kaur did not receive royalty for the past two years and which he discussed a few months ago.
Sharma clarified that the royalty stopped and he said, “We have to submit a succession certificate, which we cannot do on the IPRS.
After we send the certificate, royalties will start again and it will be trust.”
Khayyam is used to donate money regularly to FWICE (Cine artist association) with priority to be given to the singer and musicians in need.
He also provided separate funds to the Association of Cine Musicians and Funds of the Minister of Chief, as well.
So what happens to homes and various trophies including national awards, Padma Bhushan and other properties of legendary composers and end singers Jagjit Kaur? Sharma said, “Trust will decide whether we keep the house and shift all the trophies and other memorabilia to one place.
If no one claims it, I will keep all the trophies with me right next to the photo I have in my house.”
After trust took over the house, Yogesh who had been with Khayyam for more than a decade would be homeless.
He said, “I have never had a house and stayed in a rental place until Saab was still alive.
After his death, I shifted with my wife to this house.
Now Guardian Mandate will go home on Tuesday and I will hand them to them.
Even though Saab said That I don’t have to have a house and there are other employees who have been with him for decades, we will be taken care of too.
Let’s see if the Trustee Trustees take care of our next Hum Sab Ram Bharose (we will be left to God’s will).
