JAIPUR: A tenant bilked Rs 10 lakh from his elderly landlord’s bank account when the latter was undergoing treatment at a hospital after a cardiac arrest.
Parbhu Dayal, 55, learned about the cheating on Tuesday when his cheque bounced.
The bank representatives told Dayal that nothing was left in the savings account.
He checked through his mobile payment history and saw several payments into his tenant’s account.
Dayal told cops he trusted the tenant, identified as Vikas Kumar Jangid because, on March 9, Jangid had taken him to the hospital following a heart attack.
According to Nahargarh police, an FIR was registered on Wednesday in the case.
“Dayal works as a contractor in constructions.
He alleged in his complaint that earlier in March this year, he was admitted into a hospital for a heart condition.
He stayed there till about April 25 for treatment.
Jangid regularly visited him in the hospital.
One day the accused stole passwords and UPI number from Dayal’s phone,” said an official of the Nahargarh police station.
From May onwards, Jangid allegedly transferred a total of Rs 10 lakh in multiple payments from Dayal’s bank account.
“The accused made several small transactions from the victim’s account in order to avoid any suspicion.
Dayal is not well versed in mobile banking and e-wallets,” said an official.
Jaipur police said they have filed a case and are examining online transaction history.
“As per the complaint, the accused noted down the payment passwords when Dayal was discharged from the hospital and used the information for his benefit.
We will seek the help of cyber experts too,” the official said.
Police said that Jangid had left the house soon after he cleaned Dayal’s bank accounts.
Police said that the accused would be arrested if his involvement is corroborated.
“The phone will be taken on the record for forensic examination,” the official claimed.
