Jaipur cop creates WhatsApp group to help Covid patients

JAIPUR: Sodala ACP Bhopal Singh Bhati, who faced a lot of problems in getting a bed for his Covid positive wife in the second week of April, has come up with a Whatsapp group to help people in crisis.
In the Whatsapp group created by him, there are over 125 people comprising doctors, students, teachers and blood donors who help the senior police officer in arranging whatever requirements a patient needs.
TOI on Sunday spoke to Bhati and his journey of facilitating the public and also spoke to a few people who got timely help from the officer and his team.
“My bhabhi (sister-in-law) had Covid in the first week of May.
Initially, we got a hospital but we were not satisfied with the treatment.
That’s when we came across a group led by Bhati and had put forward our request.
Within a few hours, they responded and got us an oxygen-enabled bed at a private hospital.
She was discharged after 10 days.
We will never forget this timely intervention by the officer and his team,” said Vivek Maheshwari, a resident of Gopalpura Mode.
Sumer of Marodi village near Bandikui in Dausa had his oxygen saturation below 75 and the primary health centre had asked him to go to Jaipur.
“My sister is a constable in police and is known to Bhati ji.
So, I called him after my sister informed him about my case.
He asked us to wait for some time and finally got an oxygen-enabled bed at RUHS.
Thankfully, after the treatment protocol including some steroids, I was discharged from the hospital after six days,” Sumar said.
Bhati said, “While my wife had Covid in the second week of April, I faced a lot of difficulties in getting a bed.
After calling up my contacts in police and doctors, we managed to get a bed.
But this was the trigger point.
I thought when a police officer is facing difficulties, the common man must be facing much more difficulties.
So, we created a Whatsapp group in which we shared various problems of the patients requiring beds, remdesivir, oxygen cylinders and other things.
I was constantly in touch with doctors and various hospitals.” “The journey has not ended yet as we are trying our level best to help people fighting with mucormycosis,” he added.
