Jaipur: Police Ramanj arrested a thief who was alleged to steal ancient idols and silver ornaments from Jain Temple located near Haldiyon Ka Rasta on Sunday.
The police identified the defendant as Shehzada Salim aka Dadda.
“We have recovered one idol stolen from him, the remaining idols and ornaments will be found soon,” said ACP (Ramganj) Sunil Prasad Sharma, added that the defendant had several cases against him at the Brahmpuri police station and Gate Gate.
Sharma said that the local police team was looking for a suspect in the nearest area when they found a clue about the defendant and holding it to be questioned.
He was arrested late on Sunday night.
The authorities of the Jain Temple claimed that some stolen idols were almost 300 years old, and made of Ashtadhatu (Octal Metal).
“When we came to the temple for Puja in the morning, we found that the key was broken while some idols were lost,” said one of the Temple Administrators, Rajiv Tholiya.
He claimed that one of the stolen idols was found during excavation and was placed here in 2011 for worshipers.
In addition to idols, silver ornaments around 4.5 kg are also stolen on the same night.
Police Ramganj suspected that the defendant used a screwdriver to break the cabin key behind the idols.
This temple is located in the Ucha Kuan area from Haldiyon Rasta.
The narrow route area usually continues buzzing late at night.
However, there are no local ones who report suspicious activities.
An worshiper, Rajendra Jain, told Ti that Jain’s temple was almost 100 years old.
“The temple here is also known locally as a Temple of Lok Bai,” he said.
According to Sharma, similar theft was reported from other temples located in the same area where the bronze statue was stolen.
The police suspected that the accused of being arrested might be involved in both theft.
“The defendant was a resident of the gate gate.
He was arrested in the past too.
Prima Facie appeared that he was alone into Jain’s temple.
But we interrogated him to find out whether other suspects had accompanied him in theft,” said an official.
Until late at night, the city police tried to recover all idols stolen by the defendant.
