Jaipur: Garment traders in the Circle Panchvati Park Raja on Friday received a device such as a bomb hidden with a cake with a letter demanding Rs 10 lakh.
Additional Police Commissioner (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba said the device did not have explosives or detonators but contained small batteries and several nails.
The series of events began shortly after 16:30 when the e-rickshaw driver arrived with a cake in a box at the Vibhu Gupta shop.
The driver handed the box to the Gupta that had a small message on the saying “surprisingly Hi” Gupta Tere Liye (there was a surprise for you inside).
When the Gupta opened the box, he saw several cables drop it and a note, who asked him to travel with e-rickshaws equal to Rs 8 to Rs 10 Lakh.
The letter also threatened that if he failed to pay, the bomb would explode.
Shaken after reading it, Gupta refused to take a box and return it to the driver.
According to Lamba, the driver takes a cake house and finds a digital watch, battery, and cable in it.
“Surprised, the driver threw the box into the culverts.
Around the same time, we received complaints at the Jawahar Nagar police station from the trader,” Lamba said.
Sho Panna Lal checks CCTV footage outside the Gupta store and tracks the rickshaw driver.
“We also found a box and device in the culverts and took it to the police station,” said an official.
The driver claimed that a woman near the hotel in King Park paid Hospital 50 to send it to the Gupta.
The driver claimed he could not identify the woman, but the police had formed a special team to track the woman.
The ‘bomb’ design of police leaves confuses devices such as bombs containing three batteries, digital machines that tick and three batteries are usually used in household appliances.
“The design shows that it is a beginner work because it is a complete prototype of bombs to plant explosives or anything to trigger it,” said an official.
Hunting for women who sent the GIFTA police team were checking CCTVs to ensure the identity of a woman who asked the driver to send a box to the Gupta.
Despite intensive search, the police said they did not have anything to confirm who the woman was.
