New Delhi: Minister of External Affairs Jaisankar on Friday held talks with his Qatar partner Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani about the latest developments in Afghanistan when he stopped in the capital Qatar Doha on his way home from a four-day visit to our house.
Doha has become a venue for peace talks and intra-Afghanistan Qatar has emerged as an important player in facilitating the Afghan peace process.
Taliban political leaders have lived in the Gulf State for many years.
“Met Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani @MBA_ALTHANI_DPM & FM Qatar as long as I stop in Doha.
Have a useful view of views in Afghanistan,” Jaisankar tweeted.
The talks came five days after the Capital of Afghanistan Kabul fell to the Taliban after sweeping Afghanistan, winning control of almost all the cities and major cities in a month-long attack after the withdrawal of US troops.
Qatar’s foreign minister, who also held the deputy position of the Prime Minister, said the discussion included recent developments in Afghanistan.
“It’s nice to welcome my colleague @DrsJaishankar, # Minister of Indian external affairs.
Our discussion includes ways to develop historical relationships between our two-friendly countries, along with recent developments in #Fghanistan,” he said on Twitter.
On Tuesday, India completed the evacuation of all its diplomats and other staff members from Kabul with difficult and complicated training, two days after the takeover of the Afghan capital of the Taliban.
The mission to evacuate close to 200 people including Indian envoys and other staff on two military aircraft was carried out with support from the US.
Meanwhile, the unconfirmed report said the Taliban had carried out a search from several embassies in Kabul and had gone to the Indian mission complex too.
Jaisankar has made two stops in Doha in June during his visit to Kenya and Kuwait.
Qatar has also held talks between the Taliban and the United States.
Earlier this month, Qatar specifically for the conflict resolution of Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani visited India where he met Jaisanhar, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Harsh Vardhan Shringla and JP Singh, a joint secretary in the Pakistan-Iran Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA).
