As at August 18, 2021, the total number of accounts reached 43.04 crore PMJDy.
43.04CR, 55.47 per cent (23.87 crore account holders) were women and 66.69 per cent (28.70 crore), the holders are in rural areas and semi-urban areas.
During the first year of the scheme, 17.90 crore PMJDY account is opened.
The increase in average deposit is another indication of the increased use of the account and the planting habit of saving among the account holders.
Total rupay card issued to the account holder PMJDY rose to 31.23 crore.
For accounts opened after August 28, 2018, accidental insurance cover for free on rupay cards increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
About PMJDy PMJDy announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address its independence day on August 15, 2014 and simultaneously launched on August 28 to foster financial inclusion.
This national mission launched to ensure people have access to financial services, namely, banking, remittance, credit, insurance, pensions in an affordable manner.
Under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan yojanas announced on March 26, 2020, a number of Rs 500 per month for three months (till April’20 June’20) is credited to the account of the account holder PMJDy woman, said the Ministry of Finance.
A total of Rs 30 945 crore has been credited in the story of a woman PMJDy account holders during locking Covid as a measure of income support.
About 5 crore PMJDy ActOUNTHolders receive direct benefit transfer (DBT) of the government under various schemes, the ministry statement added.
