Tokyo: Japan has detected its first bird flu outbreak for the winter of 2021, with a confirmation of the case of “Influenza Avian who is very pathogenic” on a poultry farm in the northeast of the country, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Wednesday.
About 143,000 chicken coatings are being eradicated on agriculture in Yokote City in Akita Prefecture, the ministry said in a statement on its website, adding that the limited zone of up to 10 km (6.2 miles) from the site has been set.
“Under the current situation in Japan, we do not believe that there is a possibility that bird flu is transmitted to humans through consumption of chicken or eggs,” the ministry said.
But the increase in the number of people in China infected with bird flu this year turned out to be a source of concern among epidemiologists, especially because the world slowly recovered from Covid-19 pandemic.
China has reported 21 human infections with the H5N6 subtype of Avian Influenza in 2021 to the World Health Organization, compared to only five years ago, he said, with six dead and many critical ill.
Bird flu outbreaks have also been reported in the last few days and weeks in Europe with farms in Poland the latest location for infection, amounts to 650,000 poultry.
Last winter, Japan had the worst season of winter flu on the farm, with more than 3 million chicken was destroyed and a quarter of the country’s prefecture was affected.
