Imphal: A rifle Assam Jawan was killed and the others were injured in a strong Ied explosion in Waitithou in the districts though on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred a day after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Troops from the 16th Battalion with foot patrol near the water supply scheme at around 1,45 a night when the bomb left, killing Rifleman L Wangshu (30) from Arunachal Pradesh.
Rifleman Bingku Das (28) from Tripura, who was injured in the explosion, was rushed to the nearest health unit, said the police source.
The place was located along the Imphal-Moreh highway, and was under the Lilong Police Station, the sources said, added that the top police and officials of Assam rifles and bomb experts would rush there a few minutes after the explosion.
The search was launched in the area, but no one was arrested.
Lilong Legislator Antas Khan and security officials met Jawan who was injured.
