Mumbai: India Off-Spinner Washington Sundar on Wednesday ruled out the ODI series of the next three matches against South Africa after positive testing for Covid-19 and Jayant Yadav were named after a replacement for assignments starting January 19.
Pacer Navdeep Saini was also added to the ODI squad as a backup for Pacer Mohammed Siraj, who was recovering from a hamstring injury.
“The Washington Sundar Indian Off-Spinner team has been ruled out from the Opportone who will come against South Africa after testing positive Covid-19 during the camp in Bengaluru,” BCCI said in a statement.
“Sundar should travel to Cape Town with ODI members on Wednesday and join the rest of the squad ahead of the ODI series starting January 19,” he added.
The five member selection panel, led by former Indian Pacer Chetan Sharma, has been named Jayant as a replacement for Washington.
Siraj was still recovering from his hamstring injury he met in the second test against South Africa in Johannesburg.
The ODI series against South Africa began in Paarl on January 19.
The second ODI is scheduled to be in the same place on January 21, after which team will travel to Cape Town for the final series.
