Gumla: Six people have been arrested for beating and burning a woman for allegedly practicing magic in Kudpasi Colony Village under the Thethaitanger Police Station at Simdega Night.
The 60-year-old woman, who was identified as Jhario Devi, suffered 40 percent of burns and was undergoing treatment at Devkamal Hospital in Ranchi, police said.
The attack took place when the victim was in his neighbor’s house Florence Dundung to attend a meeting of organized condolences in the memory of the last wife.
In the midst of the event, Florence along with five other villagers – Dungdung, Ravi, Ravi, Amrit Tete, Hemant Tete and Jyotu Tete – who were suspected of being drunk accused the victim of practicing magic, they accused, causing the death of the woman.
The six beat him and then put the straw, poured kerosene and burned it.
Meanwhile, several other villagers told the police who rushed to the place.
OC from the Thethaitanger Police Station, Kumar Indresh said, “Six was accused – everything was drunk – struggling Jhario and then burned it.
Luckily we reached a place on time and saved him.
He came out of danger.”
