RANCHI: The state division of prison, home and catastrophe management has requested all of the 24 district administrations to estimate the losses brought by life, land and crops because of cyclone Yaas, that spanned through Jharkhand previous week and then left a path of destruction in its wake.
Vijay Kumar, the additional secretary of this section, has requested the district administration to deliver a compiled record of the damages which were caused by the cyclone by May 31.
“Based upon the evaluation of the damages that have been brought on by the cyclonic rain, this section will draft a quote of the reimbursement that is sought in the Centre as a direct fiscal relief package,” a senior officer at the division said on Sunday.
As many as four deaths are recorded in Jharkhand because of heavy rains due to the cyclonic storm, that had put in across the nation on May 26.
Dozens of houses are ruined and bridges and bridges are swept from the drains.
Power exposures, snapping of overhead electric cables and hundreds of trees have been reported.
Almost 20,000 people were evacuated from their houses and hamlets around four districts from southern areas of the country.
The Union authorities on Thursday declared Rs 1,000 crore in accumulative fiscal aid to Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand later Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an aerial survey of their cyclone-battered areas of Odisha.
Even though Odisha was given instant assistance of Rs 500 crore, funding will be released into Jharkhand and West Bengal depending on the amount of the compensation.
“We will initially assess whether the damages brought could be paid in the Rs 800 crore yearly allocation to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Only as long as the damage goes outside the yearly allocation accepted by the Centre, then additional funds will be searched,” the official stated.
State disaster management ministry Banna Gupta didn’t respond to calls if contacted.
