JAMSHEDPUR: With Covid-19 positive numbers on steady decline in East Singhbhum, the demand for hospital beds has also gone down.
Kin of patients had to wait for hours or run from one hospital to another in search of oxygen beds or ventilators but this scene has changed much now.
When the second wave was at its peak, the administration arranged 1,246 beds for Covid-19 patients.
According to health department, 1,108 beds were empty as on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the recovery rate in the district has gone up to 97.03%.
The administration had also set up 662 oxygen beds during the second wave, of which 565 beds are empty at present.
Of the 38 ICU beds, 13 are empty and 53 of 63 ventilators in the district have no patients.
Civil surgeon Dr A K Lal said: “Even after the dip in numbers, the administration will not decrease the number of Covid beds.
Rather more beds would be set up keeping in mind the possible third wave.
Beds would be arranged for children as a section of health experts has stated that they may be affected by the virus.”
