Chatra: District Police and the 90th Battalion CRPF will now work together to put Poppy cultivation checks and smuggling brown sugar and opium in the district.
Confirming its development, Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan said, “Drones will be used for supervision to ensure that farmers move away from poppy cultivation.” Poppy cultivation is rampant in the district forest land when local farmers are lured into it.
The cultivated poppy is used to make opium and brown sugar.
Among August and September this year, the police recovered 74,405 kg poppy pod, 23 kg of opium, 3 kg brown sugar and other narcotics such as marijuana.
“The CRPF has enough drones to be used.
Police Jawan will be trained in handling them.
We have even begun to monitor the area where poppy cultivation occurs in the past and fields where farmers can use it,” said Ranjan.
