Sindri: Nearly 30 people, including women and children, has a narrow escape when the fire swallowed a private insurance company office on Jalan Matkuria in the Bank more Dhanbad on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, smoke billowed from the company office located on the first floor of Krishna’s apartment around 8:30 a.m.
after that the alarm was raised.
VK Singh District Firefighters said, “We immediately shifted two fire tenders to that place but when the fire swallowed the entire apartment, we called another soft fire from the Dhanbad fire station, two of Jharia and another from Sindri to extinguish the fire.
The BCCL foam tender was also pressed into the service to envelop the fire and stopped them from spreading to other areas in the apartment.
“It took almost 5 hours for seven fire tenders to extinguish the fire.
Because people who live in other flats the building cannot go down because of thick smoke, firefighters must break the open glass panel some flats to help residents climb the stairs.
“A woman aged 80 years and two toddlers existed between them saved through this route,” Singh said.
The actual cause of the fire has not been ascertained but the Prima Facie short circuit seems to have started fire, Singh said, adding that the fire partly damaged the fabric store located on the insurance office side.
