Jharkhand to have e-Vehicle policy by ’26

Ranchi: In a big boost towards clean mobility and to control emissions from the car, the state government is ready to eliminate most of the vehicles that run on traditional fuel.
To ensure this, the State Transportation Department is compiling a policy that will provide incentives on the purchase of electric vehicles (EVS) and eyeing 10% of the registration share in 2026.
Sources that are highly placed in the Department of Transportation confirm the development and said that the policy was brought to take credit Carbon and to ensure transitions are fluent public transport vehicles to clean energy.
This policy is also a state electric vehicle policy line that has been compiled by the State Department of Industry and is discussed with a top car company by Minister of Hemant Soren’s head during his investor meeting in the national capital this year.
In accordance with the draft policy, public transport vehicles, including tricycle and four that flow on gasoline and diesel, will be completely removed from nine cities of the country and they will be migrated to cleaning options such as compressed natural gas (CNG) or on batteries in March, 2026.
To realize that achievement, the policy will have several incentives for tricycle owners and taxi operations that run on diesel and gasoline.
“Automatic-rickshaw and four-wheeled owners will be released from registration, permits and fitness costs under new policies if they switch to CNG vehicles or EV / batteries operated,” said the source.
Strengthening infrastructure is also an important part of the policy and the state transportation department has identified the selected route that will be equipped with an adequate CNG station and collect points for clean mobility vehicles.
About half a dozen inter-city routes and stretches in Ranchi have been completed which will be equipped with adequate CNG counts and charging stations.
“On Jharkhand, we will not only prepare charging stations but battery exchange facilities will also be at the charging station so that someone who uses EV can travel to a distance farther than one city in another way freely hassle,” said an official.
Knowledge of policy.
After contact, Commissioner Joint Transport, Ravishankar Vidyarthi, said that the department was working on policy for cleaning mobility but did not divulge details.
He, however, added that they had stopped registration and issuance of permission to run a car rickshaw in Ranchi since February last year.
“In addition, the number of vehicles operated by batteries has increased to 10,000 in recent years throughout the state.
So we try our best to ensure that we move to cleaning mobility in the coming years,” he said.
In accordance with the state transportation department, more than 5 Lakh vehicles are registered every year and after the policy is launched, the department is aiming to register around 50,000 vehicles which are EV / CNG or operate with batteries.
“In March 2024, we will complete the refueling station settings and refueling on the route chosen and in March 2026, 10% of the total registered vehicles will be based on EV / CNG,” said an official.
