JAMSHEDPUR: The train service in the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section was interrupted for 12 hours on Wednesday after sweeping an empty item train in Tananagar Railway Yard.
Despite the reasons behind derchief being investigated, the accident occurred in the upper line of Tananagar east pages at 3:45 in the morning.
The train on the main route of Howrah-Mumbai was also affected.
Overall, seven short-distance passenger trains were canceled, 11 distance trains were diverted and one train was scheduled to return, the train said in a statement.
Chakradharpur train division officials said two buses 60 seats and Innova cars were pressed to the service to transport passengers, stranded at Kandra Station to Tatanagar.
Snacks and water are served to passengers stranded on the train in various places between Kharagpur and Kandra.
The aid desk was also arranged at Tatanagar Station, Chakradharpur, and Rourkela for information.
According to train officials, as soon as the information reached the Division headquarters in Chakradharpur, the relief and rescue team arrived and launched restoration work together with officials from Tatanagar.
Work continues until 4pm.
A total of 12 remote trains including Puri-New Delhi Purusottam Express, Rajendranagar-Durg Express, Howrah-Ahmedabad, Howrah-Mumbai CSPpress, Anand Vihar-Santragachi Express, Puri-Yogrishi Rishikesh Express, Dial-Dial, was transferred on the route Kharagpur- Midnapur-adra-chandil for the front trip.
Only one passenger train, Tatanagar-Danapur Express, was rescheduled up to 12.15 in the afternoon, four hours behind the schedule.
The top official division, including DRM, Vijay Kumar Sahu, and officials from SER headquarters have rushed to the site to monitor restoration operations.
