Lake Buena Vista: Finalists at Scripps National Spelling Bee received a visit from one of the most prominent educators in the country: First Lady Jill Biden.
The First Lady met their spelling and family in front of bees Thursday night and made a brief comment on the stage.
“I want to be here personally to tell you that the President and I am very proud of everything you have achieved,” Biden said.
Bee this year is delayed because of a pandemic and all preliminary rounds are held virtually.
Only 11 finalists competed directly, at the ESPN campus near Walt Disney World in Florida.
The final will be broadcast at ESPN2.
Biden previously attended Bee in 2009 in Washington.
He was a professor of England at the North Virginia Community College, where he also worked for eight years that President Joe Biden was the vice president, and he had his own history in competitive spelling.
“In the sixth grade I was my school spelling bee champion.
I have the opportunity to go to the next level, but on the day of regional competition, I told my mother that I was sick,” he told the spelling.
“The truth is that I was too nervous for.
