JAMMU: Jammu & Kashmir assembled a listing 3,300 kilometers of rural roads in 2020-21 under different approaches, thus providing secure and safe all-weather connectivity to distant habitations throughout the union land. Revealing this in a meeting on Wednesday, J&K main secretary B R Subrahmanyam reported that the government has fixed a goal to assemble 4,200 kilometers of road length in 2021-22. The majority of the work has been performed under the flagship programme’Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’. While appreciating the progress made at the last fiscal year, the principal secretary noticed the public works department (PWD) enrolled an unparalleled accomplishment by finishing 3,300 kilometers of rural roads under different strategies, and ought to use the obtained experience in fast-tracked project implementation to achieve much greater results. The projected goal for 2021-22 comprises 800 kilometers and 3,400 km coastal roads in Kashmir and Jammu States, respectively. He requested the PWD main secretary to occasionally review district-wise advancement for timely settlement of bottlenecks and related challenges. The section was also requested to keep quality standards of brand new structures and confirm the production of high-tech infrastructure, besides job regular inspections of their functions with focusing on maintenance functions.
