Jntu offers a 1-year break to pursue startup aspirations

Hyderabad: Students of Learning Engineering in Universities affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University, Hyderabad (Jntuh) will now be able to rest up to one year to pursue their entrepreneurial project as part of the policy of termination of employment relations applied from this academic year.
.
Following the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, Jntuh’s academic senate recently cleared the policy of termination of employment that allowed students to pursue entrepreneurship while studying.
Previously, students had to study for four consecutive years before they pursued entrepreneurship.
“Students will be given the option to rest at the end of the second and third year to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations.
They can pursue research and work in the industry or take advantage of the break period to work on their own companies, products or designs,” the Registrar Jntuh Manzoor Hussain.
According to the policy, only students who have succeeded in clearing all subjects in the first four semesters will be eligible to rest to pursue research or entrepreneurship work.
“Students who have a bad backlog or presence will not be eligible under the break-study policy.
They must submit enough evidence about the work or entrepreneurial work they take to be able to rest from academics,” Hussain said.
The Registrar Jntuh added that students who took a break must return and pursue the remaining semesters to be able to obtain their degree certificate at the end of the course.
This policy will be expanded to all affiliated colleges that must send a list of all the students to the representative of the University Chancellor for approval.
Moving by the University to introduce this policy came a few months after the university launched a university startup initiative where students were allowed to work on prototypes, case study reports, projects on open issues since the first year to get credit equivalent to mini-project.
