New Delhi: Deputy Chancellor Jnu M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as Chair of the Grant University (UGC) commission on Friday.
According to the Ministry of Education, Kumar has been appointed as head of higher education regulators for a period of five years.
“The central government has appointed M Jagadesh Kumar as the head of the UGC for a period of five years or until he reached the age of 65, which was earliest,” said a senior Moe official.

Kumar currently holds allegations as VC JNU’s acting after a five-year tenure of expiration last year.
He is also the chairman of the National Assessment and the Accreditation Board.
The ministry has not appointed his replacement in JNU.
In his appointment, Kumar told Tii: “As chairman, UGC, this is a great opportunity for me to work for young thoughts of our country in higher education institutions.
My direct focus will be the implementation of the speedy from the national education policy, allowing ecosystems Research and innovation in Heis and make higher education more inclusive and accessible to technology.

He had previously worked as an assistant professor at IIT-Kharagpur and Associate Professor at IIT-Delhi.
