LONDON: Johanna Konta England was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon on Sunday after being identified as a close contact of the Positive Koronavirus case, the All England Club announced.
World number 31, semifinalists in the tournament in 2017, have been withdrawn to face Katerina Hiakova from the Czech Republic in its opening.
The 30-year-old place in the lottery will be taken by 123 Lucky Loser Wang Yafan from China.
“The referee’s office has suggested that Johanna Konta have been withdrawn from a single women’s lottery, after being classified as close contact with a positive exam for Covid-19,” said a statement from the All England club.
