New Delhi: Less than two weeks after the Birla speaker said there would be no extension of the time given to the Joint Parliament Committee on the personal data protection bill to submit the report, Lok Sabha on Friday issued another extension to JPC, this time allowed him to submit his report The first week of the parliamentary winter session.
JCP was formed in December 2019 to review the Protection Data Protection Bill, 2019, which seeks to regulate the use of individual data by the government and private companies.
This is the third extension given to him.
Earlier this month, 5 out of 30 JPC members, including the chairman Meenakshi Lekhi, was elevated as Minister following the cabinet reshuffle.
While Birla nominated BJP MP Chaudhary PP as a new chairman of the Committee at Lekhi’s place on Friday, six other vacancies remained filled.
Sumber Sabha confirmed that the design of the Committee report was sent to the speaker’s office.
However, this sparked anger among members of Member Parliament.
“How the personal data protection bill report personal claims (PDP) has been submitted to the speaker @ombirlakota when the report has not been circulated to a much cheaper member.
One of the release or @M_LEKHI must clarify.
@Ombirlakota Please note,” said former Minister of Union Manish Tewari.
Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh is also chimed in.
“I am amazed.
Apart from 3 committee members have become ministers and they also ask for a report design to circulate before adoption.
Now of course they will be silent,” he said.
Ramesh then confirms “urgent need” for personal data protection laws and saying it “increases by the current Pegasus scandal”.
Speaking to Toi, former Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Rev.
Achary said, “Sharing a draft with the speaker’s office may be an informal arrangement because there is no sanction for this based on the rules.” Achary also said JPC, formed by the resolution of both houses, operating independently and usually, the draft report was circulated to JPC members, who adopted their recommendations, after the report was submitted at home, if the parliament was in a session.
