Madhepura: Ward member of the Ward Number 9 was killed and two others were seriously injured in a shootout between supporters of two candidates of Mukhiya in Bargown Panchayat under the area of the Alamnagar police station in the Madhepura district at night Panchayat last and 11th.
Polling on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Brij Mohan Mandal (28).
Nathuni Sharma (65) and Chotu Kumar (26) of the same Panchayat, who sustained a bullet injury, was received at a local hospital.
The condition of one of them is declared critical.
The locals said following rumors that Mukhiya’s husband candidate distributed cash among voters, supporters of other candidates clashed with them.
It was snowballed into a shootout where one person was killed and the other two were injured.
Local residents blocked the road with the mandal body, demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the murder.
They shouted slogans against Mukhiya candidates.
Rajiv Ranjan Sinha Sub-Division Judge, Udakishungaj Sdpo Satish Kumar, Sho Alamnagar Uday Kumar, Ratwara Sho Ravikant Kumar and other senior police officers rushed to the place and calmed the agitators to lift the barrier.
The election in number 9 was suspended for the death of the candidate.
Udakishunganj Sdpo said the raid would arrest the perpetrators.
